Sorry for not posting anything in a long time. I’ve been busy with a few things, namely:
- setting up BlueTie for the blog – this makes it easier for me to manage other authors of this blog. Expect new authors soon.
- today I went to my cousins graduation from FIT (Fiji Institute of Technology).
- now that school holidays have started, I have to be at our shop for most of the day.
Besides all that, Fiji has undergone its 4th coup in 20 years. This time, led by the commandar of the Royal Fiji Military Forces; Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama.
Bainimarama’s justification of this coup was that the Laisenia Qarase led government was involved in corrupt practices. Bainimarama has established a committee to investigate the “corrupt practices” of the previous goverment.
The takeover has been followed by many MPs’ and CEOs’ term in parliament and the ministries, respectively, being terminated.
On the other hand, Dr Jona Senilagakali, a senior military doctor has been appointed by Commodore Bainimarama as the “interim” Prime Minister. The new Police Commissioner is Jimi Koroi, who has previously served in the police force before moving on to a post in the RFMF (Royal Fiji Military Forces). This was done after Andrew Hughes’ (Fiji’s police commissioner) was sacked, leaving Deputy Police Commisioner, Moses Driver to fill in his boots. But later, Moses Driver was also served with a termination, and Jimi Koroi is our new police commisioner.
Dr. Senilagakali had also mentioned to the media (FijiTimes.com) that elections may be 2 years off.
The nation must unite and pray that all will be well.
